Helena Morrissey, chief executive officer of Newton, has been recognised by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her services to business. She has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

British honours are awarded on merit, for exceptional achievement or service. The honours consist of life peerages, knighthoods, appointments to the Order of the British Empire and gallantry awards to servicemen and women and civilians. Helena has been made a CBE for her services to UK business, and will receive the honour at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace later this year.

Helena joined Newton in 1994 and was appointed chief executive officer in July 2001. Before she became CEO, she was head of Fixed Income, managing a number of global bond funds. She was twice-winner of industry publication Investment Week's Global Bond Fund Manager of the Year. In 2007 she was recognized by Global Investor as 'CEO of the Year', and was named the Financial News' 'Most Influential Woman in European Asset Management' in 2010. Helena is spearheading a cross-business initiative in the UK to have 30% women on company boards by 2015 (the '30% Club'). Newton is part of BNY Mellon Asset Management and has more than £43.4 billion in assets under management.

Curtis Arledge, CEO of BNY Mellon Investment Management, said "For the past decade Helena has championed the leadership of women in financial services, participating in and leading many initiatives designed to further the careers of women and prepare them for senior positions. Newton's success is also testament to her leadership and it is a fitting recognition that she should receive this award."
