Why absolute returns?

absoluteAn absolute-return approach to investment is one which seeks to deliver positive returns (after the effects of inflation). There is no requirement to track the performance or replicate the composition of any market index. An absolute-return strategy should, therefore, be able to perform independently of asset market movements. We think that such a feature may be attractive to investors in times of market uncertainty, as it provides scope to take a defensive position to protect capital in downturns.
